Selank is a synthetic heptapeptide studied in neuroscience and immunology. This overview covers its structure, origin, research history and regulatory status. It is a scientific summary, not guidance on use.
Structure and origin
Selank has the sequence Thr-Lys-Pro-Arg-Pro-Gly-Pro (seven amino acids). It is an analog of tuftsin, a natural four-amino-acid immune peptide (Thr-Lys-Pro-Arg), extended with Pro-Gly-Pro. It was designed at the Institute of Molecular Genetics of the Russian Academy of Sciences (Volkova et al., Front Pharmacol, 2016, PMID 26924987). See the Selank product page for our material’s specifications.
How Selank has been studied
- Expression of GABA-signalling genes in rodent brain (Volkova et al., Front Pharmacol, 2016, PMID 26924987).
- Inhibition of enkephalin-degrading enzymes (Zozulya et al., Bull Exp Biol Med, 2001, PMID 11550013).
- Expression of inflammation-related genes (Kolomin et al., Mol Immunol, 2014, PMID 24291245).
- Antiviral activity in an influenza model (Ershov et al., Vopr Virusol, 2009, PMID 19882898).
- A Russian clinical comparison in anxiety disorders (Medvedev et al., Zh Nevrol Psikhiatr, 2014, PMID 25176261).
Most of the literature comes from Russian research groups, and controlled studies outside Russia are limited.
Regulatory status
- Selank is not approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for any use.
- It is sold as a medicine in Russia.
- Selank was not among the peptides reviewed by the FDA Pharmacy Compounding Advisory Committee in July 2026.
- Selank is not named on the WADA prohibited list. Check Global DRO for current status.
Laboratories should confirm the current status in their jurisdiction before beginning work.
Quality considerations for researchers
Results depend on the material used, so identity and purity data matter. Check that each batch comes with a certificate of analysis showing mass-spectrometry identity and HPLC purity, and that the batch number matches your vial. Store lyophilized material as described in our storage guide.
Frequently asked questions
What is tuftsin?
A natural four-amino-acid immune peptide (Thr-Lys-Pro-Arg). Selank extends it with Pro-Gly-Pro.
How many amino acids are in Selank?
Seven.
Is Selank related to Semax?
They come from the same institute and share a Pro-Gly-Pro tail, but are built on different parent peptides. See Semax vs Selank.
