Epithalon: Research Background
Epithalon (Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly, also spelled Epitalon) was developed by Vladimir Khavinson’s group at the St. Petersburg Institute of Bioregulation and Gerontology. It was designed as a synthetic analogue of epithalamin, a peptide extract of the pineal gland.
The most-cited laboratory work examines telomerase activity and telomere length in cultured human cells, including fibroblast cell lines. Other published studies have looked at pineal melatonin rhythms in aged animal models and at gene-expression changes in cell culture.
Because it is only four residues long, Epithalon is also a convenient model compound for short-peptide stability and analytical method development.
What the Epithalon COA Confirms
OxygenLab products are tested by independent third-party laboratories. HPLC reports purity as the main peak’s share of total peak area, and mass spectrometry confirms identity against the expected molecular weight of 390.3 g/mol. Published certificates are on our COA page, and others are available on request; match the lot number on your vial to the report before use in an experiment.

More Questions About Epithalon
What is the sequence of Epithalon?
Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly (AEDG in single-letter code), a linear tetrapeptide.
Is Epithalon the same as epithalamin?
No. Epithalamin is a pineal gland extract; Epithalon is the synthetic four-residue peptide designed from research on that extract.
Storage and Handling
- Store lyophilized powder at -20°C for long-term storage, protected from light and moisture.
- Short-term storage at 2–8°C is acceptable for unopened vials.
- Allow the vial to reach room temperature before opening to limit moisture uptake.
- Record batch and lot numbers for every preparation.
Frequently Asked Questions
How is the purity of Epithalon verified?
